The Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Democratic People's Republic of China proposes mandatory marking of genetically modified food

With the struggle for safety of genetically modified products becoming a hot spot for the whole society, the Democratic People's Republic of China will submit proposals at the two sessions in Shanghai, suggesting that a mandatory labeling system for genetically modified foods should be formulated as soon as possible.

The Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Democratic People's Republic of China found in the survey that foreign genetically modified foods have clear signs. The European Union and the United States, Russia, and Australia all require the labeling of all foods. The developed countries in Japan, South Korea, and other countries require a wide range of labeling of genetically modified products. . In China, on the one hand, the scope of the requirements for labeling is too narrow. On the other hand, this requirement lacks rigid constraints.

In the proposal, the Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Democratic People's Republic of China proposes that according to the international practice and combining with China's actual conditions, the mandatory labeling regulations that are more suitable for the needs of Chinese consumers should be formulated, and the existing genetically modified signs should be changed from text labels to double markings with texts and icons. The font size and visibility must be increased. At the same time, the use of internationally accepted genetically modified signage icons will establish mandatory standards for the size of the area occupied by icons in the packaging of goods.

The proposal puts forward that the mandatory labeling regulations should classify and manage the number of genetically modified components of a commodity and the extent of the extent of the labeling. The specific method may be to change the background color and the letter color of the genetically modified labeling pattern. For example, the background color is yellow, indicating direct production. The genetically modified product has a blue background, which means that it is processed by genetically modified raw materials; the background color is white and it is a product that has been transformed from a genetically modified product and does not already have genetically modified features.
