Bosch develops silicon carbide semiconductors in an effort to reduce electronic equipment in electric vehicles

However, in the real world, cars with the same battery size may have very different driving distances. Power management is one of the most important factors affecting the distance traveled, especially how the electrical energy stored in the battery is effectively transmitted to the motor. One of the most wasteful side effects of this process is fever. A new type of silicon carbide (SiC) semiconductor design developed by Bosch has better conductivity than existing chips, thanks to the inclusion of more carbon atoms in its manufacturing process. This means that electronic devices can achieve higher switching frequencies while also reducing power consumption in the form of heat. Bosch claims that this chip reduces the problem of converting energy into heat by 50%.

The company said that when using batteries of the same size in electric vehicles, the driving distance of electric vehicles using silicon carbide semiconductors can be increased by another 6%. For example, in an electric vehicle rated at 250 miles, the distance traveled by an electric car using silicon carbide semiconductors will increase by 15 miles. ,
