According to foreign media reports, at the 2019 North American Battery Show (Battery Show North America 2019), the German AKASOL will provide a series of new solutions for the battery industry. The company's flagship product is a new commercial vehicle high-energy lithium-ion battery AKASystem AKM CYC, and the system is being developed in series.
The AKAModule CYC in this system can reach an energy density of 221 Wh / kg, and its liquid-cooled battery module can be flexibly designed according to actual needs, and the cost is low. Pure electric city bus equipped with this system can provide 600-1000kWh battery system capacity. The new AKASystem AKM CYC battery can be quickly charged up to 1C with a maximum power of 500 kW.
There are two standard versions of AKAModule CYC. The size of the small AKA Module 64 CYC is the same as that of the standard PHEV VDA battery module, which is thermally managed by the heat sink in the system. The large version of AKAModule 150 CYC uses an integrated liquid-cooled structure. In larger module designs, ensure that each battery cell maintains good thermal management performance.
In order to achieve high energy density and increase charge and discharge power, the company uses a new 21700 cylindrical battery cell. This new technology can increase the mileage of electric vehicles by more than 60%. This system is suitable for long-distance traffic, such as buses, intercity buses and trucks that use night charging facilities. AKASOL plans to start mass production of this product in 2021, and some customers will start sample verification before the end of this year.
AKASOL will also launch the second-generation AKASystem OEM PRC. Daimler EvoBus eCitaro uses the first generation of products with an installed capacity of up to 294 kWh. In the same installation space, the second-generation system will provide more than 33% of the energy, achieve an installation capacity of about 400kWh, and the charging rate can reach 2C. And, it can be quickly charged at the most powerful commercial vehicle charging station on the market today, even if the battery pack is small, and the maximum charging power can reach 500kW. The second-generation AKASystem OEM PRC has been tested and verified and will be available at the end of 2019. By mid-2020, mass production will be for two major commercial vehicle customers.
In addition, the 48V AKARack system is in the final stage of serial development. This small 19-inch battery system is widely used, can provide a capacity of 6.5 kWh, charging rate up to 2C, and has a liquid cooling architecture to provide strong thermal management support. This product is scheduled to be released in mid-2020 and will be used in construction vehicles and ships.
