Furniture manufacturers are temporarily unaffected by "green barriers"

The "European Wood and Wood Products Regulations" recently passed by the European Parliament means that a green barrier has been established for the entry of relevant domestic wood products into the EU. The reporter learned from the Foshan Furniture Industry Association and a number of furniture manufacturers that Shunde's furniture exported to the EU is relatively small and has not been greatly affected for the time being.

New EU regulations require legal sources of timber

The EU is the second largest market for China's wood products exports. Last year, wood products exported to the EU accounted for nearly 1/4 of China's total exports of wood products that year. The new timber law has become a green barrier for China's wood products exports and cannot provide sufficient legality. Certified wood and wood products will be blocked by the EU.

The reporter learned that the "EU Wood and Wood Products Regulations" and the "New Environmental Design Directive Proposal", which were officially passed in the European Parliament recently, tried to eliminate the risk of illegally harvesting wood and wood products flowing into the EU, requiring wood production, processing, and sales chains All manufacturers listed above must submit basic information to the European Union to prove the legality of the source of the wood, such as the source of the wood, country and forest, wood volume and weight, and the name and address of the log supplier. Illegal wood and wood products will be severely punished. The sanctions will affect wooden furniture used in offices, kitchens, bedrooms, guest and dining rooms, woodware (including certain types of wooden decorative panels), various types of wooden boards, wooden picture frames, photo frames and mirror frames, various types of wooden Packaging (including boxes, boxes). After the regulation is passed by the European Parliament, it will be implemented only after the European Council reaches a political consensus.

Shunde furniture manufacturers are not currently affected

The reporter learned from many furniture manufacturers in Shunde that Shunde exports less furniture to the EU, and under the influence of the financial crisis, exports to the EU have declined. For the new regulations of the European Union, Shunde furniture manufacturers have not been greatly affected.

Relevant person in charge of Shunde Jiebang Furniture Manufacturing Co., Ltd. revealed that the factory exports about 30% of the furniture. The export area is mainly in the Middle East and Southeast Asia. It is not directly sold to the EU, but it does not exclude foreign distributors from The Middle East was resold to the EU. The situation of another local company, Zhidong Furniture, is also roughly the same. Of the 30% of products exported, most are sold to the Middle East and Africa, but few in Europe and America. Zhongzhixin is a furniture manufacturer that focuses on the domestic market, with exports accounting for only about 10%. While focusing on the domestic market, it exports to the Middle East and Russia, and only a small part of its products are sold to Australia and Canada.

Zhang Yingfa, Secretary-General of the Foshan Home Furnishing Industry Association, said that the new regulations have corresponding restrictions on the purchase of wood raw materials by furniture manufacturers. The main impact is the increase in inspection costs. However, at present, the impact on local companies in Shunde is still relatively small. At present, the association has not received requests for assistance from members. Industry insiders also said that in the long run, new regulations for wood and wood products need to be taken seriously.
