Berstorff, based in Hannover, Germany, recently delivered an efficient production line of rigid expanded polystyrene (XPS) panels to a long-term Italian customer and commissioned it. The new Schaumtandex ZE110/KE400 is a combination of twin screw extruders and single screw extruders. It has enabled Sirap Gema Insulation Systems, a well-known manufacturer of insulation boards and plastic packaging products, to more than double the XPS production capacity. At the same time, the line is suitable for use with blowing agents that are harmonized with the environment, such as CO2.
With the trial run of this new line with a maximum capacity of 1,500kg/h, Sirap Gema now runs several hard XPS foam board production lines, which are mainly sold to the Italian construction industry. The XPS board has an average density of 35 kg/m3 and is characterized by a closed-cell uniform foam structure that provides high stability and compressive strength while providing outstanding water absorption stability. Because of the superior performance of XPS panels, they meet the increasing demand for applications such as compressive stress and extreme wet conditions. In addition to the XPS board, SirapGema's product range also includes EPS panels (expanded polystyrene panels), which, like XPS panels, are used as insulation in the construction industry.
