Shan Aluminum: Low Temperature Bayer Process Pre-Desilication Process

Recently, the China Non-ferrous Metals Industry Association hosted the Scientific and Technical Achievement Evaluation Project of the “Study on the Low Temperature Bayer Process for Pre-Desilication Technology” undertaken by Shandong Aluminum Co., Ltd. in Zibo City, Shandong Province. The appraisal committee heard the project's research report, reviewed the relevant appraisal data, visited the site, and after questioning and discussion, the experts believed that the project carried out a process technology study on the sizing problem of the gibbsite pipeliner, and proposed a slowdown. The technical solution of the pipeline smashing has completed laboratory research and industrial tests, and has been adopted by the 630,000 ton alumina/year construction plan.

The project has the following characteristics and innovations: 1. Research and discovery that kaolinite is the main mineral producing scar. It has been determined that kaolinite dissolves rapidly at 90-100°C. During the incubation process, sodium slag is gradually formed and the silicon content in the solution gradually decreases, which slows the formation of kaolin. 2. The raw material characteristics of stone bauxite, research and put forward pre-desilication process control conditions. Experts believe that after the implementation of the pre-silicon removal process, the pipeline operation cycle and service life have been extended, production efficiency has been improved, energy consumption has been reduced, and overall technology has reached the leading domestic level. After industrialization, the economic and social benefits are significant. It has guiding significance for domestic companies that use gibbsite to produce alumina.
