Europe Co-develops Automotive Carbon Fiber Composites

The European HIV OCOMP cooperative research project will focus on the introduction of carbon fiber composite materials technology to accelerate the production of composite materials, which is a key factor for the application of composite materials in the high-volume commercial vehicle market.

The partners of the HIVOCOMP project are: Volkswagen, Daimler, Fiat Research Center, Samsonite, University of Perugia, Huntsman Polyurethanes, ESI Group, Bentler Sigrid and others.

HIVOCOMP will develop two material systems and is expected to mass-produce cost-effective carbon fiber reinforced plastics, namely advanced polyurethane (PU) thermoset matrix materials and thermoplastic polypropylene (PP) based and polyamide 6 (PA 6) based self-reinforced polymers. Composite materials. The performance, production cost, and recyclability of carbon fiber composite material systems will be tested to ensure cost, safety, and environmental goals are met. Proven components will be produced in 2013.

The project mainly focuses on passenger cars, including hybrid and all-electric vehicles that are now entering the market. The HIVOCOMP project lasted 4 years.
