Imports of sensitive products such as Indian cotton increased by 13.6%

According to Indian media reports, from April to June 2010, India imported 13.6% of sensitive items, including edible oil, bean products, cotton and fruits and vegetables.

According to data released by the Indian government, from April to June, India’s total merchandise imports totaled 378 million rupees, an increase from 301 million rupees in the same period of last year. Sensitive products accounted for 4.7% of total imports, which accounted for 4.3% of all imports during the same period last year.

Among imported sensitive products, edible oils, automobiles, fruits and vegetables, milk and dairy products, spices, marbles and granites, alcoholic drinks and foods all increased. However, imports of beans, cotton and silk declined.

It can be seen that India's oil imports rose by 11.5%, while refined oil imports fell by 40.6%. The increase in edible oil imports was mainly due to the increase in soybean oil imports.

The importing countries of India's sensitive products mainly include: Indonesia, China, South Korea, Brazil, the United States, Argentina and Germany.
