Current Status and Suggestions of Chinese Metal Cutting Tools

In 2011, China's metal cutting tool consumption generally continued its growth trend in 2010, and it increased in total. According to estimates, China's tool consumption in 2011 was about 39 billion yuan, an increase of about 13% over 2010; the domestic tool consumption was about 27 billion yuan, less than 4% increase from 2010; and the consumption of imported tools It is about 12 billion yuan, an increase of about 25% over 2010. In recent years, China's tool consumption is shown in Figure 1. Figure 1 China's metal cutting tool consumption in 2005-2011 Figure 2 China's tool consumption structure However, if we analyze the consumption structure, we will find that there are many problems in the consumption structure of China's domestic tools. In the world of industry, the proportion of tool consumption is about: 35% for high speed steel tools, 10% for diamond and cubic boron nitride tools, and welded carbide tools, solid carbide and indexable carbide. It takes up the rest. This is not the case in China's tool industry. According to the domestic sales statistics of the member companies of the Tool Tool Industry Association Tool Branch in 2010, about 69% of the domestically produced tools consumed in China are high-speed steel tools, and the carbide tools only account for about 28% (the rest are tool systems, diamonds). And cubic boron nitride tools, etc.). Even with imported tools, about 53% of our tool consumption is high-speed steel tools, while cemented carbide tools are 45%, while diamond and cubic boron nitride tools account for only 2% (Figure 2). This ratio shows that although China has become the world's largest consumer of machine tools and the world's largest tool consumer, China's tool consumption structure cannot even reach the world average. Our current situation is: Although the numerical control rate of our machine tool output and the numerical control rate of machine tool output are increasing year by year, from the trend of the average selling price of its machine tools, we can see that our CNC machine tools may still be the main character of simple CNC. This means that the overall level of metal cutting in China is still not high. This low level of overall processing and our rising labor costs and the appreciation of the renminbi hide the risk of our Chinese manufacturing becoming increasingly uncompetitive, including economists and entrepreneurs in some countries, including the United States. Some manufacturing companies that have moved to Asia are being considered for moving back to their home countries. To enable us to continue to attract global companies to bring manufacturing to China, we need to improve our competitiveness, which of course includes improving manufacturing levels. In fact, the author believes that it is also in line with the Party Central Committee’s requirement that we should change the development mode during the “Twelfth Five-Year Plan” period, that is, we must move from heavy, low-value, high-consumption manufacturing to heavy-level and high-addition. Value, green manufacturing. I mentioned in the article "Future Tool Technology and Market" in the topic of tool manufacturing technology, first of all the material technology of the tool. The material technology of the tool is expected to develop in both the new type of material and the high performance of the original material. As for the high-speed steel tools currently used in China's tool industry, although the tool material does not die in the short term, upgrading is also necessary. For example, if we use high-performance high-speed steel with cobalt or even powder metallurgy high-speed steel (P/MHSS) instead of the ordinary high-speed steel that is now commonly used, our high-speed steel tool manufacturing level can also be advanced. In developed countries in Europe and America, since the 1970s, the market share of high-speed steel tools has gradually been eroded by cemented carbide tools. However, with the advent of powder metallurgy high-speed steel tools, the market share of high-speed steel tools has rebounded. This is because powder metallurgy high-speed steel tools are more popular than ordinary high-speed steel tools because of their higher hardness, better toughness and wear resistance. However, in some applications such as high impact and large removal, the powder metallurgy high speed steel tool is less brittle than ordinary old cemented carbide and is less prone to chipping, thus replacing some of the hard alloy. Tool. However, China's tool industry has not used powder metallurgy high-speed steel to manufacture tools for a long time. Therefore, it is no doubt that the level of high-speed steel tools is low. Until recently, I have heard that Heye Group and Jiangsu Tiangong have plans to develop powder metallurgy high-speed steel. I hope they can implement it well. I hope that the existing high-speed steel cutter manufacturers in China can change the development mode, production and Promote more popular powder metallurgy high speed steel tool products. In addition, in the high-speed steel cutters, China's high-speed steel cutter manufacturers also belong to the Qianjun Wanmao single-wood bridge - most of the production capacity is in the production of high-speed steel drilling tools. It can be seen from Fig. 3(a) that in the tool consumption in Germany in 2006, the consumption value of the high speed steel taper is higher than that of the high speed steel drill bit, and from Fig. 3(b), the high speed steel hole processing is seen in China. The domestic tool consumption of the tool is about 4 times that of the high speed steel thread cutter. According to the author's analysis, this is not to say that the demand for high-speed steel thread cutters in China is small, but because the manufacture of high-speed steel wire cones is relatively simpler than the manufacture of high-speed steel drill bits, and the requirements for taps are relatively high, and the application is complicated. Tool manufacturers are far from meeting the needs of domestic consumers in tap manufacturing and sales services, resulting in domestic tap consumption similar to that of carbide tools, relying more on international manufacturers in China. This point, we can also get some confirmation from the sales situation of Japanese tap manufacturing and sales expert OSG. If our domestic tool manufacturers want to gain a place in the competition with international manufacturers, it is a must to pay attention to the user experience. As far as the author is concerned, many of our domestic tool manufacturers have insufficient attention to user experience in all aspects of product development, production, sales, and service. The author has visited several domestic tool manufacturers, including old-fashioned large-scale state-owned tool companies, and well-stocked joint-stock companies, as well as some private enterprises. When introducing their companies to users, they often do not introduce their own products. What kind of services are provided for users, what kind of problems can be solved for users, but rather what kind of equipment they have, and often the model manufacturers and equipment models are introduced one by one. To be honest, most user companies don't know what the manufacturer's devices represent. The author served the Walter tool for eight years, until the day of leaving Walter, the company's production of blade equipment is ignorant. But I know what kind of solutions they can provide to users, how much productivity can be improved for users, and how much production cost can be reduced for users. I also know what their product characteristics are, how to choose which tools to choose according to different conditions of use, and how to use these tools correctly. In the process of communicating with many users, I clearly know that these are what many users really want to know. I can tell you frankly that no one has ever inquired me about what type of equipment Walter's blades are made of, just like we use mobile phones for almost everyone, but what equipment are used for these phones? We may all know nothing about it. If our tool manufacturers are immersed in their own world, they are keen on what kind of good equipment they have and they are complacent, instead of paying attention to the user experience, it is difficult to develop, manufacture and sell products according to the needs of users. Get your own piece of the world in the competition.
