China's propylene imports surge

Sinochem New Reuters China Customs data showed that due to both domestic supply shortages and the growth of downstream demand, China’s propylene imports surged 76% year-on-year in September to 143,331 tons.

Dushanzi Petrochemical Company's 1 million-tonne/year naphtha cracker in Xinjiang was shut down for maintenance on August 9. The original plan was to restart on September 29, but production was delayed due to technical failure of one compressor. The Shanghai Secco naphtha cracker was forced to shut down on September 8 due to a fire in the pipeline and restarted on September 27. The device is designed to produce 1.1 million tons of ethylene and 500,000 tons of propylene per year.

At the same time, the demand for propylene in the domestic downstream derivatives of propylene has increased. Yanshan Petrochemicals restarted the polyethylene and polypropylene plants that had been shut down for up to 1 month on September 15, including a set of lows of 450,000 tons/year. Density polyethylene, 1 set of 180,000 tons/year high density polyethylene and 1 set of 445 thousand tons/year polypropylene.
