Photovoltaic cell conversion rate reached 20.4% and set a new world record

Photovoltaic cell conversion rate reached 20.4% and set a new world record On January 17, Empa, the Swiss Federal Materials Science and Technology Laboratory, announced that its flexible substrate CIGS CIGS solar photovoltaic cells have been updated with a high conversion efficiency of 20.4%.

This new world record has been certified by the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE, and this latest world record surpasses the world record of 20.3% of the current glass-based CIGS photovoltaic cells.

Ayodhya Tiwari, head of the Thin Film and Photovoltaic team at the Swiss Federal Institute of Materials Science and Technology, said that today we are finally closing the gap between the efficiency of polysilicon photovoltaic cells or CIGS thin-film solar cells.

Significant improvement in conversion efficiency The Swiss Federal Materials Science and Technology Laboratory pointed out that in May 2011, the same R&D team created a world record of 18.7%, and the 20.3% achieved this time was a significant improvement.

The Swiss Federal Materials Science and Technology Laboratory stated that the current laboratory will be dedicated to the commercialization of this technology and will cooperate with Swiss startup Flisom AG.

It is understood that this study has been made by the Swiss National Science Foundation and Technology.
