At present, non-renewable fossil energy (coal, oil, natural gas) plays a major role in the energy consumption structure. Mankind is facing the dual threat of fossil fuel depletion and environmental pollution. The development of new energy and renewable clean energy is imminent. Hydrogen energy is considered to be the most ideal and most promising green energy that can replace petroleum, coal and natural gas because of its abundant reserves, cleanliness, and renewable energy. The use of solar energy to decompose water into hydrogen will fundamentally solve the problem of energy shortage. An ideal way.
Yu Hongwen, a researcher at the Northeast Institute of Geography and Agricultural Ecology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, designed and successfully produced a highly efficient three-dimensional Pt/TiO2 photocatalyst using a simple, green solvothermal method. The unique hierarchical structure of the material has a large specific surface area. It can effectively increase the utilization of sunlight, promote the separation of photoelectron-hole pairs and inhibit their recombination. Therefore, in the photocatalytic decomposition of water to produce hydrogen, using 365nm light excitation, Pt / TiO2 hierarchical structure shows very good photocatalytic activity, hydrogen production efficiency up to 13.33 mmol h-1g-1, quantum efficiency of 34% . Moreover, the material has good stability and has practical application value.
The research was funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the “Hundred Talents Programâ€. The research results were published on Nanoscale.
