At present, a new energy development company in the Netherlands is planning to establish a new project. The project intends to simultaneously conduct seaweed cultivation in the offshore wind farm area, from which to advance biofuels, and to develop two-way clean energy.
The company, Ecofys, has previously been committed to the development and utilization of various clean energy sources, including offshore wind power projects and turbine test work consulting. The original intention of this project is to conduct seaweed planting on a large area around offshore wind turbines. It can not only be used as a feed supply for marine fishing, but also can be used to extract biofuels from seaweed to develop bio-clean energy.
The project rulers believe that the area surrounding the turbines is ideal for seaweed breeding areas due to multiple considerations such as shipping, commercial fishing, and ecological restoration. “This practice can attract fish to the area near the seaweed, which is conducive to the ecological restoration of small-scale waters.â€
In addition, Ecofys stated that at present, the technology for the development of marine fuels and the extraction of seaweed proteins is becoming more and more mature. The Dutch Energy Research Center will extract proteins from seaweed as biofuels and fuel assemblies for power generation.
It is understood that if the project is reached, it will become a milestone for global offshore planting.
